Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute is a private, biomedical research organization dedicated to improving public health through research on the prevention, treatment, and cure of respiratory disease.
As one of the few designated ABSL-3 labs in the nation capable of conducting GLP research, LRRI has extensive Animal Biosafety Level-3 animal exposure facilities that are available for collaborative or contract work with qualified entities. LRRI provides expert assistance to designers, contractors, commissioning agents, and owners in the development and operation of biocontainment facilities.
The Hazardous Materials Chemistry and Exposure Laboratory is one of the few facilities in the nation with the specialized equipment and security to handle highly toxic and hazardous chemical agents, such as sulfur mustard and sarin gas for exposures to animals. LRRI is widely known for its capabilities in radiation dosimetry and toxicology, with a Countermeasures core facility for testing and developing therapeutics against inhaled radioactive compounds. A newly acquired LINAC will allow for whole-body exposures to large animals of external radiation.
