Summary

Battelle Memorial Institute is a charitable trust nonprofit applied science and technology development organization with over 20,000 employees. Battelle has three primary business divisions: the National Security Division which includes CBRNE technologies, aerospace and environmental systems; Health and Life Sciences Division for advancement of therapeutics, diagnostics, vaccines and other public health initiatives; and Energy, Environment and Material Sciences Division.

Battelle, through various business collaborations, manages a number of high-profile government laboratories including the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center (NBACC), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). Battelle also has major technology centers in Columbus, OH (Headquarters); Aberdeen, MD; and Geneva, Switzerland with specialized facilities, regional centers and offices in more than 100 cities worldwide.

The Battelle Biomedical Research Center (BBRC) and their lab in Aberdeen are among the few labs in the world equipped to study aerosolized microorganisms for biodefense research. Battelle has also played a large role in the training of National Guard Civil Support Teams for Weapons of Mass has been heavily involved in Mobile Laboratory and connectivity programs for the US government.
