Summary

Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Suffield is the Canadian defence center of expertise for chemical and biological agent defense systems, military engineering, and autonomous intelligent systems. This location also offers live agent training to the Canadian Forces and first via its Counter Terrorism Technology Centre (CTTC). Research focus areas include medical countermeasures and toxicology, chem-bio hazard detection and identification, physical protection against CB agents, explosives assessments, and novel energetic materials.

Major research areas of interest include: hazard prediction modeling and analysis; nucleic acid-based drugs against biological warfare agents; DNA sequencing services; understanding mechanisms of infectivity; assessing antidotes and decontaminants; genomics and proteomics profiling and characterization of agents; novel therapeutic delivery methods; mobile rapid assay systems; aerosol detection of biological and chemical agents; and nano material applications for protective materials and decontamination systems.

DRDC Suffield, together with six other research centers such as DRDC Toronto and DRDC Centre for Security Science, work collectively to support the Science & Technology needs of the Canadian Forces under the Canadian Department of National Defense.
