Aberdeen Test Center (ATC)U.S. ArmyBiography
The U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) at the Army Test Center (ATC) conducts developmental testing encompassing technical feasibility testing, engineering development testing, software development testing, production and post-production testing, post-deployment software support testing, and testing associated with vulnerability/lethality assessments.
ATEC’s 9,000 military, civilian and contract employees are highly skilled test officers, engineers, scientists, technicians, researchers and evaluators that are involved in over 1,100 tests daily. ATEC has a combined 29 locations in 17 states, with an annual budget exceeding a half billion dollars.
The Command Staff Directorate supports the test mission with regard to environmental, safety, and security compliance; resource management; and personnel training and development.
The Warfighter Directorate plans, conducts, analyzes and reports the results of developmental tests, production tests, and other tests specifically focused in the areas foreign systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, individual and general equipment, and provide support to the Special Operations Forces community.
The Test Technology Directorate plans, conducts, analyzes and reports the results of developmental tests, production tests, and other tests specifically focused in the areas of transformational technologies development and System of Systems testing through common instrumentation, knowledge management, in theater vehicle and crew data capture acquisition, reduction, analysis and distribution. Test Technology initiatives as play a vital role in the Command, Control, Computers, and Communications (C4) mission.
The Survivability/Lethality Directorate plans, conducts, analyzes and reports the results of developmental tests, production tests, and other tests specifically focused in the areas of vehicle crew survivability, direct- and indirect-fire weapon lethality and environmental technologies.
The Plans and Operations Directorate supports the test mission with regard to facilities, resources and information, engineering and technical services.
The Automotive Directorate plans, conducts, analyzes and reports the results of developmental tests, production tests, and other tests specifically focused in the areas of ground and amphibious manned and unmanned vehicles, vehicular weapons, and fire control systems.
The Firepower Directorate plans, conducts, analyzes and reports the results of developmental tests, production tests, and other tests specifically focused in the areas of weapons and ammunition of all calibers, mine warfare systems, electric armaments, explosive devices and fragmentation.
As a designated Federal Laboratory, the ATC participates in technology transfer and dual-use partnership initiatives with industry. ATC can subject an item to a full range of tests from concept evaluation and research prototypes through Rapid Fielding Initiatives. ATC test services may be acquired either through federal interagency reimbursable fund transfers, simple contracts, or Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs).
Requests for test services at ATEC test ranges should be submitted as early as possible to allow ATEC to plan, coordinate, and schedule resources, and ensure that required safety, security, and environmental concerns have been properly addressed prior to the test.
