SUMMARY:Brookhaven Laboratory Workshop for Industry Researchers
DESCRIPTION:Do you have an R&D challenge that you can’t solve with traditional commercial techniques? This specialized virtual workshop will offer access to unique x-ray\, electron and optical techniques\, which are designed for understanding materials in unprecedented ways. \nBrookhaven National Laboratory will host a virtual workshop on December 14-17\, 2020 for industry researchers to showcase the capabilities and expertise available at U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science User Facilities located at Brookhaven Lab. \nThe workshop is designed to benefit both researchers who have previously used Brookhaven facilities for their work and those who are interested in learning about accessing them for the first time. \nThe workshop will inform researchers from industry about the leading-edge capabilities and expertise at Brookhaven facilities\, and provide details about the mechanisms for accessing them. The workshop will also more broadly introduce participants to DOE programs designed to support industry research. \nThe workshop agenda will feature presentations from industry users of Brookhaven Lab facilities\, question-and-answer sessions\, and opportunities to directly hear from Department of Energy program managers for your questions. \nHighlighted presentations include: \n\nBio and pharmaceuticals\nNanofabrication; Materials synthesis and characterization\nInnovative Chemistry through Advanced Microscopy Techniques\, Ke‐Bin Low\, BASF\nBio‐inspired invisible glass: from nature to commercialization\, Calvin Cheng\, Edgehog\nOverview of capabilities of NSLS‐II and CFN\, John Hill\, BNL\nX‐ray diffraction/scattering\nElectron microscopy\nHard and soft x‐ray spectroscopy\nAdvanced UV and x‐ray probes\nImaging and microscopy\nAdvanced optical spectroscopy and microscopy\nLessons learned as industry users of BNL facilities ‐‐ panel discussion\nDOE SBIR/STTR Program\, Manny Oliver\, SBIR/STTR Program Office\, DOE\nDOE TIR Program\, Eli Levine\, Advanced Manufacturing Office\, DOE\nDOE TCF Program\, Zack Baize\, Office of Technology Transitions\, DOE\nStrategic Partnership Program\, Ivar Strand\, BNL\nHelp desk and other DOE user facilities Q&A\nHow to become an industrial user and access facilities – Jun Wang (EPS)\nHow to write a good nonproprietary industrial proposal – Lisa Miller (NSLS‐II)\, Priscilla\nAntunez (CFN)\n\nThe workshop will provide a unique “facilities open house” format\, where attendees will spend time remotely in the labs observing Brookhaven’s capabilities in action and engaging in technical discussions with Brookhaven experts.
