SUMMARY:ICE\, ICE\, Data: Using NICEATM’s Integrated Chemical Environment to Support Chemical Evaluations
DESCRIPTION:Join us April 18-19 for a special training session featuring experts from the NTP Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods (NICEATM). \nNICEATM’s Integrated Chemical Environment is a free online suite that houses curated toxicity and physicochemical property data\, integrated into a variety of tools to analyze and visualize chemical data. These tools provide data access adhering to FAIR principles: data that is Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, and Reusable for chemical characterization\, PBPK\, IVIVE\, and more! \nAt this two-day event\, you will learn directly from NICEATM developers how to use the Integrated Chemical Environment and have the opportunity to have your questions answered in the Q&A session. For your convenience\, a printable agenda is available for download below. You will receive session materials through the Zoom Webinar platform ahead of the event. Recordings and other materials will be made available shortly after the sessions. Registration is free\, but required to attend.

SUMMARY:What Happened to the Plans? Lessons Observed from COVID-19 - A Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences\, Engineering\, and Medicine will organize and convene a day and half public health workshop. During this workshop\, invited participants from government\, NGO\, and private sector organizations will explore the nation’s Public Health Emergency (PHE) preparedness enterprise\, including existing PHE preparedness and response plans\, systems\, and structures\, through the lens the COVID-19 response in the United States. \nThe activity will explore key components\, success stories\, as well as failure points throughout the entire PHE preparedness and response enterprise in order to identify opportunities for more effective catastrophic disaster\, pandemic\, and other large scale PHEs planning at the federal\, state\, local\, tribal\, and territorial levels. Using key components of past NASEM reports to frame workshop discussions\, participants will examine specific lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and explore potential paths forward. Specifically\, the workshop will examine: \nWeaknesses and opportunities in the PHE’s systems architecture\, including but not limited to \n\nGlobal disease surveillance;\nHealthcare delivery and core public health functions;\nSupply chain viability and vulnerabilities;\nMedical Counter Measure (MCM) development\, distribution & administration/delivery;\nData systems and other promising opportunities for preparedness and response technology platforms etc.\n\nThe continuum of local-state-regional-national coordination challenges and leadership incident command structure disparities\, including: \n\nPreparedness and response capabilities\, authorities\, and funding streams;\nStaffing challenges and potentially strength of community partnerships to assist in preparedness\, community organizing and vaccine advocacy; and\nRisk communication and messaging failures.\n\nThe planning committee will define the specific topics to be addressed\, develop the agendas\, and select and invite speakers and other participants. After the workshop\, a proceedings-in-brief will be prepared. \nPlease visit the National Academies’ What Happened to the Plans? Lessons Observed from COVID-19 and the Future of the Public Health Emergency Enterprise – A Workshop webpage for more information.

SUMMARY:Disease\, Diplomacy and Displacement: Syrian Refugees and the Politics of Health in Jordan
DESCRIPTION:Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) will host a lecture event on Disease\, Diplomacy and Displacement: Syrian Refugees and the Politics of Health in Jordan on 24 May 2022. \nThe event is open to the public through a virtual option. Those with an active Stanford ID may attend in person at Encina Hall. \nAbout the Speaker: \nSigrid Lupieri is a postdoctoral at the Center for International Security and Cooperation. Dr.Lupieri received her Ph.D. from the Center of Development Studies at the University of Cambridge. She also holds an MPhil in Modern European History from the University of Cambridge and an M.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University. Her primary research investigates how security concerns\, foreign policy agendas\, and diplomacy shape the priorities of refugee responses. In her current book project\, based on the case study of the Syrian refugee crisis in the Middle East\, she finds that security and diplomatic interests have wide-ranging effects on humanitarian health spending\, including a disproportionate focus on infectious diseases and the inequitable distribution of resources. In other research\, Dr. Lupieri explores the impact of refugee movements on the healthcare systems of host countries\, and the intended and unintended effects of international aid on refugee welfare. Outside of academia\, she has worked for several years as a journalist in Armenia\, Georgia\, and Germany\, and as a UN officer in New York and New Delhi. the Senior Director and Lead Scientist\, Global Biological Policy and Programs at NTI. \nPlease visit CISAC’s Disease\, Diplomacy and Displacement: Syrian Refugees and the Politics of Health in Jordan event listing to register.
