SUMMARY:Opportunities & Challenges for Next Generation Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Natalie Prystajecky explores how the various public health applications of sequencing has played a crucial role in outbreak response\, surveillance\, emerging variant detection\, and more during the COVID-19 pandemic. \nThis free event is brought to you by the 2021 ASM Clinical Virology Symposium (CVS)\, one of a 4-part CVS Online: SARS-CoV-2 Webinar Series featuring leading experts in the field discussing the most pressing topics around COVID-19. \nABOUT THE SPEAKER \nNatalie Prystajecky\, Ph.D.\nBCCDC Public Health Laboratory \nNatalie Prystajecky\, Ph.D. is a microbiologist at the British Columbia CDC Public Health Laboratory (BCCDC PHL)\, where she oversees the Environmental Microbiology and the Molecular and Microbial Genomics laboratories. She is also Clinical Associate Professor in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia. \nIn her clinical roles and research endeavours\, she uses emerging technologies\, such as genomics\, to improve routine surveillance and outbreak investigations. During the COVID-19 pandemic\, she has provided leadership at the BCCDC PHL to implement genomics and explore opportunities and challenges for next generation sequencing of SARS-CoV-2. \nThis virtual event is open to ASM members and non-members. Registration opens Tuesday\, Sept. 28\, 2021.
