SUMMARY:NICBR Winter Symposium on Novel Therapeutics
DESCRIPTION:The National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research (NICBR) will host a symposium on novel therapeutics for infectious diseases\, cancer and autoimmunity on January 24\, 2019 in Frederick\, Maryland. \nNICBR is a consortium of eight agencies working in synergy to achieve a healthier and more secure nation. It serves as a framework for facilitating and encouraging interaction among the NICBR member organizations where there are areas of mutual interest. \nThe eight members include elements of the Department of Defense\, Health and Human Services\, Agriculture\, and Homeland Security: \n\nNational Cancer Institute at Frederick\nNational Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases\nUS Army Medical Research and Materiel Command\nUS Department of Agriculture\, Agricultural Research Service\nNational Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Centers\nCenters for Disease Control and Prevention\nNaval Medical Research Center\nUS Food and Drug Administration\n\nCraig Thomas\, PhD\, NCATS will provide the keynote presentation on “Accelerating Translation: Strategies for Rapid Probe Development\, Drug Combination Discovery and Precision Medicine.” \nIf you are a researcher in the Frederick community working in these areas and would like to give an oral presentation\, please provide a short abstract by Jan. 5\, 2019. It is anticipated that the program will consist of selected oral presentations from the NICBR member agencies. \nRegistration is required. There is no fee for this event.

DESCRIPTION:The American Society for Microbiology’s 2019 ASM Biothreats meeting will be held January 29–31\, 2019\, in Arlington\, Virginia. \nThis leading annual event\, formerly known as the ASM Biodefense and Emerging Diseases Research Meeting\, is a forum for the discussion of new data from the research of microbiological sciences related to biodefense and bioterrorism\, the latest information on preventative modalities\, therapeutics\, and clinical diagnoses related to high consequence pathogens\, and the most recent trends in the management and planning of biothreat programs. \nA highlight of this meeting is Biothreats Peer-to-Peer\, a half-day pre-meeting symposium providing students and early career professionals the unique opportunity to make an oral presentation to a group of their peers. Speakers from the full Biothreats program have been invited to discuss their careers and job opportunities in the field. \nRegistration opens the second week of November.
