The objectives of this project are to facilitate greater interaction between National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Toxicology community, to raise the awareness of traffic safety issues, and to increase NHTSA’s knowledge and credibility in the area of alcohol- and drug-impaired driving.
In support of this goal, NHTSA plans to contract for the Consultant Services of an experienced Toxicologist (or staff of Toxicologists) to 1) aid NHTSA in understanding, studying, and addressing issues related to chemical testing and the impairing effects of drugs; and 2) network with colleagues in the Forensic Toxicology/Criminology and Medical communities to encourage more interest and activity on traffic safety research, issues, and needs.
