Applied Research Associates, Inc. is seeking a Biotechnology Analyst to provide on-site support in support of a Department of Defense (DoD) customer for Research and Development, Test and Evaluation of technology development, sensor/subsystem development, and new concept development. Candidate will work intimately with teams supporting research and analysis in software engineering, networking, communication, cyber, aerial/ground/naval platforms, biotechnology, and space systems. The successful applicant will work to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and technically challenging work and will determine courses of action in various biological applications to resolve challenges and incompatibilities.
The successful candidate:
- Performs complex analysis of current, and future biological research, development, preclinical, or clinical studies. May be involved in conducting technical assessments, and analysis of technologies related to: animal genotyping, animal cell culture analyses, recombinant DNA techniques, DNA cloning, isolation of RNA and gene expression, transfection, or immunoblotting.
- Conducts research to evaluate operational efficiency and effectiveness, recommending improvements to biotechnology processes. Applies advanced principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments, and contributes to the development of new ideas and principles.
- Provide technical insight and leadership guiding DoD research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) requirements.
- Often speaks for the organization to internal/external customers and works on long-range programs and objectives.
- Reviews program for high risk areas and recommends mitigation approaches.
- Conducts modeling and simulation exercises as needed.
- Collaborates with team members, development contractors, and customer forums.
- Investigates innovative and emerging technologies to incorporate into analysis.
- Refines and develop measures of effectiveness, improvements to system environments, and new procedures to support all facets of testing and operations.
- Conducts user outreach and research new concept designs to solve hard problems.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, biotechnology, or related field and 5-7+ years of experience
- Experience in RDT&E, concept development, requirements definition, and trade studies for new systems across multiple types of platforms
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Working proficiency using MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), MS Outlook, MS Project
- US citizen with a minimum DoD Top Secret clearance and the ability to obtain SCI access
Desired Qualifications:
- Current DoD TS/SCI security clearance.
- Masters or Ph.D in a biotechnical discipline such as microbiology, virology, biotechnology, or related field.
- Ability to provide technical advice and services pertaining to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
- Experience with biosensor integration and technology platforms,
- Experience evaluating concept designs and system integration strategies.
- Experience authoring system and sub-system level requirements.
- Thorough understanding of requirements flowdown, verification methodologies, calibration plans, Concept of Operations (CONOPS), Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and test plans to ensure program success.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with team members, development contractors, and customer forums.
This position is contingent upon award of a contract expected in Spring 2020 supporting the Department of Defense.
