USAMRIID is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Personnel Demonstration Project (PDP) . The DE-03 payband is equivalent to the GS-09 step 1 to GS-11 step 10 level. In keeping with the Demonstration pay fixing policies, employees earning a salary that falls within this payband equivalent, will not receive an immediate pay increase (promotion) if appointed to this position. Future pay increases within the payband will be accomplished through the pay for performance management system.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Working in Biological Safety Level (BSL) 2 – 4 environments supporting the care and use of laboratory animals; (2) Supporting animal research facility care operations including building automation systems (BAS) and animal watering systems (AWS); and (3) Interpreting animal welfare laws for application to animal husbandry, production and methods within a research facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (DE-02/GS-08).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Successful completion of a Master’s degree or two full years of graduate education in Biological Science or field of study directly related to the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
