DoD to Purchase BioFire Diagnostics Respiratory Panels

The U.S. Army Contracting Command (ACC), Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Natick Contracting Division (NCD) has announced an intent to award a sole source contract to BioFire Diagnostics, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah to support detection of respiratory diseases amongst military personnel. 

The contract is being executed on behalf of the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) and calls for a quantity of eight FilmArray Systems and one hundred FilmArray Respiratory Panels, 30 pouches each, for infectious disease detection in an potentially austere operating environments. The system requirements further state results must be achievable within two hours while requiring minimal technical manipulation and hands-on time for sample preparation.  

The following human respiratory viruses and bacterial pathogens in clinical samples must be analyzed by the system: Influenza A (subtype H1, H3, and pH1), Influenza B, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza Virus (1-4), Coronavirus (HKU1, NL63, 229E and OC43), human Metapneumovirus, and Enterovirus/rhinovirus, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Bordetella pertussis, Chlamydia pneumonia, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
