Battelle’s CBRNE Business Line is seeking a scientist who possesses a strong background in chemistry, biology, or biochemistry. The successful candidate will conduct information acquisition activities and apply the principles, theories, and concepts of chemistry and/or biology to address technical questions in Chemical Warfare (CW)/Biological Warfare (BW) defense and counter-proliferation for U.S. Government clients. Tasks will include reading and analyzing scientific literature and writing reports on various technical topics related to CW/BW defense, counter-proliferation, dual-use technologies, and medical countermeasures to CW/BW agents. The successful candidate must be familiar with open- and gray-sourced search, discovery, acquisition, exploitation, and analysis, and be comfortable utilizing various search engines and scientific databases. Experience with text analysis and/or MediaWiki software is a plus. The successful candidate must show an interest in learning, the ability to work well in a team environment, and be comfortable speaking in front of their peers and clients. The candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a SECRET level U.S. Government security clearance and cannot possess dual citizenship.
This is not a laboratory position. It is located in Charlottesville, VA and is in a professional office environment.
- MS in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field with 5+ years of experience
- Proficient with scientific databases (e.g. SciFinder, PubMed, ScienceDirect)
- Ability to research and analyze scientific, medical, and patent literature
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
- Willingness to work in small groups or independently as necessary
- Demonstrated technical writing skills, shown by articles published in technical journals, reports, theses, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be US Citizen
- PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field with 0-2 years of experience
- Familiarity with reference management software (e.g. EndNote, RefMan) and authoring in MediaWiki software
- Familiarity with text analysis tools and principles
- Experience reviewing and assessing CW/BW Defense topics
- Currently possess a DoD sponsored Secret or Top Secret clearance
