Military Medical Photonics Program

by Global Biodefense Staff
February 21, 2013

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) is seeking proposals for research that is aimed at using lasers and other light source technology to develop new applications in medicine and biological systems for military applications.

Proposals for work of up to three years duration to be conducted by interdisciplinary teams of physicians, biomedical scientists, physical scientists, and engineers are desired. Applications to combat casualty care and other military medicine are a high priority.

The effort is primarily directed toward university-based institutions, although proposals from other recognized medical or scientific organizations and commercial companies are not precluded. Collaborations with government medical research agencies, especially defense-related, are desirable and encouraged.

AFOSR estimates up to 3 awards with an estimated dollar amount of $0.5M to $3M per year, subject to funding availability. The anticipated period of performance will be for three years, beginning after October 2013.

Further details are available under Solicitation Number: BAA-AFOSR-2013-0002. The response deadline is April 30, 2013.
