Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) has announced a technology commercialization opportunity for an innovative miniature cell lysis system for use in point-of-care diagnostics.

The system developed by SNL utilizes high-frequency compression waves to release cellular content, such as nucleic acids and proteins, for analysis. SNL’s approach uses a wavelength similar to the size of cells, resulting in more efficient energy transfer.

This technology releases viable DNA, RNA, and proteins from human or bacterial cells, without chemicals or additional processing, to enable high-speed sample preparation. Unlike commercial acoustic transducers, the technology does not generate significant amounts of heat, making it compatible with protein assays.

Organizations interested in partnering with SNL to further develop to commercializing this technology are requested to provide a capability statement to SNL. Further details are available at FBO.gov.
