Next Steps for Functional Genomics: A Workshop and Proceedings Release

July 22, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm EDT

Virtual Event Virtual Event

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) will convene in a virtual meeting open to the public on July 22, 2020 to unveil and summarize written proceedings a previous workshop on the future of functional genomics research.

During this proceedings release, you will have the opportunity to hear from Gene Robinson and Lauren O’Connell, who were members of the workshop planning committee, about important insights that were gained over the course of the workshop.

The workshop itself was held in February in Washington, DC, and included speakers, panels, and interactive sessions, that explored the scientific advancements needed to utilize functional genomics to solve societal problems in areas such as conservation, evolutionary studies, agriculture, energy, defense, human health, and other sectors.

Over the course of the workshop speakers and participants looked to address the current state of the science, what lessons have been learned thus far, what current impediments there are to further progress, and areas where additional investments could help move the field forward. Importantly, the workshop served as a platform for discussion within the functional genomics community.

Please visit the NASEM website to register.
