DoD Influenza Surveillance Support Contract Awarded in Thailand

by Global Biodefense Staff
June 6, 2012

The U.S. Army has issued a sole source contract award in support of collaborative infectious disease studies to Phramongkutkloa Hospital (PMK) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Since 1996, the hospital has been conducting ongoing influenza surveillance in partnership with the co-located U.S. Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS).  PMK has also been a noted collaborator on two dengue vaccine trials and other disease surveillance programs.

The award funds clinical, epidemiological and logistical support for surveillance and research studies at the AFRIMS Virology Research Unit. Services include screening and recruitment, clinical management, enrollment, data and sample collection of subjects; provision of medical services to enrolled subjects in accordance with influenza surveillance protocols; and training programs for personnel in compliance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP).

The contract award W81XWH-12-P-0313 totals up to $133,200 for a base year and five option years.
