The U.S. Army is conducting market research to determine whether a commercial system is available to meet requirements for a patient protective wrap for use in chemical warfare or chemical incident environments.
The desired equipment would provide respiration and continuous protection for unmasked, uncontaminated patients for a minimum of six hours after initial exposure to all known potential chemical warfare agents that could be employed in vapor, aerosol, liquid, or thickened liquid form.
Medical personnel will use the wraps to protect uncontaminated or already decontaminated litter patients from chemical agent exposure during movement through a contaminated area. The units must provide the same level of protection as specified for the current standard Chemical Biological over garment.
The fastening devices of the wrap must permit medical personnel easy and quick access to patients from either side. The design must also allow for air and carbon dioxide to be exchanged through use of a Power Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) System.
The U.S. Army Medical Material Development Activity (USAMMDA) is the contracting entity for this effort. Interested vendors must respond no later than April 29, 2013.
