The Naval Medical Logistics Command (NMLC), on behalf of the Naval Medical Research Unit 6 (NAMRU-6) intends to issue a Request for Proposals for biosurveillance technologies and systems for detection of health threats, health events, and overall situational awareness of disease activity.
The objective of the requirement is to evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of a diagnostic device and associated biosurveillance system in sentinel communities overseas. Potential locations include Iquitos, Peru, and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Understanding disease activities allows the DoD to detect possible threats of bioterrorism, understand epidemiological outbreaks, offer humanitarian assistance to affected areas, and protect military personnel in disease-affected areas.
This RFP is in support of the 24-Month Diagnostic Device Challenge (.pdf) sponsored by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Joint Science and Technology Office.
The official request is scheduled for release on June 10, 2013 under Solicitation Number: N6264513T0016.
