The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Centers for Global Health (CGH), Division of Parasitic Diseases this week announced an intent to solicit and enter into a contract on a sole-source basis with Bio-Rad Laboratories for a Bio-Plex 200 System multiplex array system with high throughput fluidics.
“This machine is requested for a Multiplexing suspension array system capable of screening for multiple analyses in one sample.
Studies on Luminex techniques are years into development and these specific antigens and microspheres produced by Luminex have been specifically tested and optimized on this equipment,” states the announcement. “As of now, we have more studies than our current machines can process and a complement to these exact machines is required for continuity of research.”
The Division of Parasitic Diseases further states that use of any other product would require that the assay development work begin anew and all efforts up to this point would be essentially lost.
The announcement was posted under CDC Solicitation Number: 56306.
Bio-Rad Laboratories is headquartered in Hercules, Ca.
