USAMRIID Awards Select Agent Research Reagents Contract

Select Agent Countermeasures Research Contracts

The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) is the Department of Defense’s (DoD) lead laboratory for medical biological defense research.

USAMRIID has awarded a sole source contract to Life Technologies Corporation (now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific), citing the company as the only source able to obtain required Gibco 2X EBME A 15950DK for continued use in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulated studies for the Ebola virus, Hantavirus and Alphavirus.

As USAMRIID cell culture research evolves into late stage drug development studies, the same reagents must be used through the process of research into Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulated studies. To switch to another manufacturer of reagents would imperil the research studies and create undue delays and additional costs to the Government, according to the announcement.
