333 laboratory confirmed cases of MERS-CoV, including 107 deaths, have been reported by local health authorities worldwide as of April 22, 2014, according to the ECDC. Of these, only fifteen have been reported outside of the Middle East including only ten in Europe.
The official count from the World Health Organization stands at a total of 253 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with MERS-CoV, including 93 deaths, as of April 23, 2014.
Greece announced its first laboratory confirmed case of MERS-CoV infection on April 18, 2014. The 69 year old male patient is a Greek citizen, permanently residing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, who arrived in Athens on the day prior on a flight via Amman, Jordan.
